MICROSTRUCTURES & SURFACES

Explore what geometry can do at the microscale

Prototype polymer microwells, arrays, lattices and patterned surfaces for research and development. Photosynthetic helps turn a designed microarchitecture into a physical structure you can inspect, test and iterate.

Discuss your project

From a surface pattern to a functional experiment

Design microwells and arrays

Explore lattices and open architectures

Explore lattices and open architectures

Create repeated microfeatures with a defined shape, spacing and arrangement. Microwells and arrays offer a starting point for research concepts that need organised spaces or repeated structures. Share the intended sample, footprint and access requirements so the geometry can be considered within your experimental setup.

Explore lattices and open architectures

Explore lattices and open architectures

Investigate polymer lattices and other open microstructures with deliberately arranged elements and spaces. Compare architectural variants to examine how the geometry behaves in your chosen test. The intended loading, handling or interaction should guide which designs are worth prototyping.

Prototype patterned surfaces

Explore lattices and open architectures

Work within a defined process window

Explore surfaces with custom microfeatures, repeated motifs and application-specific layouts. Vary the pattern, feature dimensions and spacing to create a set of designs for comparison. Use the fabricated samples to investigate the interaction or response relevant to your research.

ORIGIN 2.5 uses single-photon volumetric microlithography to create 2.5D polymer microstructures. Platform specifications include features below 5 µm, heights up to 1000 µm and aspect ratios up to 20:1. The practical design window depends on the geometry and material; discuss your target dimensions with our team.

Connect the geometry to the test

Work within a defined process window

Start with a sketch or design brief

Specify what the structure must interface with and how it will be evaluated. Consider the polymer material, handling, inspection method and any assembly constraints. A clear test plan helps determine which dimensions and features matter most in the first prototype.

Start with a sketch or design brief

Share your intended function, a sketch or geometry file, target feature dimensions, pattern spacing and total footprint. Include material needs and the question you want the experiment to answer. Our team can discuss feasibility and how to approach the next design iteration.
